Maplelawn was an estate built in 1831-1834 for the Thompson family in its early beginnings and was later purchased by the Cole family in 1877.

The Main Branch of the Ottawa Public Library is located in downtown Ottawa on the corner of Metcalfe Street and Laurier Avenue West. The current building replaced the original library, the Carnegie Library, which stood in the same space.
